My vision for this monthly column is to provide you with an astrological view
of events that shape our daily lives. Today, as I write I am listening to News
Alerts of sniper shootings in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. People
have died doing normal, everyday chores: sitting at a bus stop, going to a
grocery store, mowing their lawns, getting gas and going to school. Each of
these people had no idea that their lives would be cut short that day. They
believed they had all the time in the world. We have experienced terror attacks
for over a year. We no longer feel safe living our lives. We can no longer count
on tomorrow in the same way we could before September 11, 2001.
o understand why these events are occurring and what we can do about them in
our own lives, we must understand the planet Saturn. Saturn is the Lord of
Karma, so it expects us to take responsibility to resolve our past. We learn
through Saturn that history is important and that there is an important thirty
year cycle from which to learn. It wants us to focus our energy in practical and
efficient actions through determination, commitment and organization. Saturn
requires us to take a high level of responsibility in mind, body and spirit
levels. This responsibility means staying grounded and being spiritually
attuned.
As the planet Saturn moves through the signs it structures and steadies those
things governed by the sign it is moving through by streamlining, concentrating
and eliminating the superfluous. Saturn entered the sign of Gemini on April 21,
2001and will remain there until June 5, 2003. Gemini needs clarity and gathers
necessary information to have it. It lives in the present with ease and knows
how precious the present is. Gemini needs to share ideas and thoughts and is a
consummate communicator. Saturn in Gemini seeks:
- To value the present and live our lives in it.
- To develop competence in building new communication styles, forming new
links and sources of information and redefining understandings that we already
have.
- To discern what information is important and what is frivolous.
- To bring a practical focus to the versatility and dualism of Gemini.
- To explore the potentials of our intellect.
- To value clarity in thought and expression.
- To take responsibility for our ideas and express them with maturity,
thoughtfulness and efficiency.
- To understand what history is ready to teach us.
Thirty years ago Israeli students went to Munich, Germany to participate in
the Summer Olympics. Terrorists from Palestine killed many of them. Saturn was
in Gemini. On September 11, 2001 terrorists struck again in the United States.
Saturn was in Gemini. Palestine and Israel are still warring. They cannot find a
way to communicate with each other and because of that people are dying everyday
in the Middle East.
Saturn wants us to take responsibility to live in the present. Clearly it is
a time to cherish our lives right here, right now. All of us know that living in
the present moment is spiritually correct. We know that it is the only way we
experience true joy, yet most of us are not doing that. We dwell on the past and
plan for the future and there is that vital space, called the present, that is
ignored. Are the events of the last year urging us to value our moments more? Do
we need to honor the present and “be here now?” Have we taken our lives
for-granted by not being fully expressed when we need to be? How many times have
we wanted to say, “I love you” to a loved one and being too busy and put it off.
Most of the time we have another chance to say what we need to but in this time
of terrorism, we may not. Saturn in Gemini wants us to take responsibility to
share our thoughts and feelings with another, regardless of how distracted we
are or how busy we are. People were preparing to die at the World Trade Center
and they were on the phone to their loved ones saying good-bye and I love you.
One of the ways that we can honor them is to learn from them.
Saturn in Gemini wants us to take responsibility for our ideas and to express
them with maturity, thoughtfulness and efficiency; not only to others but to
ourselves.
We need to honor the diversity of who we are and learn to listen to the many
different facets of ourselves. We need to discover the words to comfort and
teach our inner child, respect our soul, embrace our uncovered male or female
sides and to love and honor our adult selves. Saturn in Gemini wants us to find
the words and to communicate effectively with all of us!
