North Node Cancer

THE NORTH NODE JOURNEY TO YOUR SOUL MISSION

By Linda Lee Adams

The North Node represents the valuable key towards understanding your soul mission. It provides meaning as part of a continual discovery of your life's journey. Learning about the North Node in the signs lends access to the numerous ways you can experience more joy, happiness and inner harmony. In order to determine your soul potential take a look at the North Node and South Node chart in Linda Brady's book: “Discovering Your Soul Mission; How To Use Karmic Astrology To Create The Life You Want,” (Chapter 4, pgs. 75-77). What do the nodal positions mean?

Learning about your South Node is an equally important reference point as the South Node is symbolic of your past; it is a combination of many incarnations. Below is a chart highlighting the Nodal Points:

There are derivatives of past life experiences, attitudes, thoughts and energies that have led you to the current life. For instance, do you fall back on the familiar when challenges appear in your life? Have you seen someone that you just know you have met before? Do cosmic 2x4's hit you again and again with the same life lessons? Therefore, according to Martin Schulman, “the potentially weakest spot in any horoscope is the South Node for it represents the footsteps we have left behind us,” (“Karmic Astrology,” p. 23).

The Sun flows into the sensitive sign Cancer from June 21 - July 22, 2003. The Egyptian myth of the Crab refers to the constellation sometimes represented by two turtles. This is known as the Stars of the Water. As the Moon rules Cancer, the Cancerian personality manifests the waxing and waning of moods. A moon child can be emotionally connected one moment, then evasive and distant the next. Yet, the fullness of Cancer resonates nurturing, sentiment and fertility. The depths of Cancer cultivate domestic roots which are planted in the home loving nest.

Cancer is kind and sympathetic with a powerful imagination. It is artful in the kitchen and with homemade crafts. The creative spirit of Cancer will share grandmother's favorite recipe for cranberry-nut bread as a testament to cherishing its family heritage. Cancer makes a wonderful homemaker. Cancer will also gravitate toward the esoteric energy of the sea while collecting spiral shells and starfish treasures. As the crab walks sideways on the beach in order to avoid a direct confrontation with its reality, so does Cancer. In life, Cancer uses a hard shell that provides protection and security for a soft inner flesh. It can be vulnerable and childlike, with an inclination to changing emotions and wounded feelings.

While Cancer honors the past, it clings to the present. It demonstrates tenacity more than any other sign. Any project that Cancer begins will be brought to fruition. It will nurture the process and evolution of its craft. Cancers make excellent businessmen, nurses, housewives, and kindergarten teachers. A calm atmosphere at work is necessary for the Cancer. It cannot stomach upsets at work very well, as there is a tendency to worry about slights to his or her character.

The North Node in Cancer is “The Spiritual Mother.” With an Earth Mother attitude, the maternalistic Cancer is devoted to the expression of feelings. It supports the vulnerable emotional needs in all of us, and is devoted to those experiencing emotional pain. Affectionate and loyal Cancer reminds us that understanding the depths of our feelings will connect us to our inner mother-spirits. As exemplified by the Cancerian pioneer on “Death and Dying,” Elizabeth Kubler Ross postulated that terminally ill patients process a range of emotions from denial to acceptance. She nurtured their last breaths of life as her patients demonstrated the profound gifts of the human spirit.

Mother Root
Creation often
needs two hearts
one to root
and one to flower
One to sustain
in time of drouth
and hold fast
against winds of pain
the fragile bloom
that in the glory
of its hour
affirms a heart
unsung, unseen

Cherokee poet Marilou Awiakta
