Simple Pleasures

The things I like the most are peach-pink skies

at dusk, a honeysuckle breeze in June,

and Persian kittens chasing butterflies;

the moonlit gladiolus; new born toes

that wiggle, hot fudge sundaes crowned with nuts,

Aerobic sweat, red cheeks and muscles firm;

an evening thunderstorm, warm feather-beds,

herb tea and writing letter; honest friends

and laughter; dancing, wrapping gifts, old shows,

the morning dew, communion-hymns and life.
