The Total Solar Eclipse
of 1999

Dear Fellow Aquarians,

On August 11, 1999, we experienced a major astrological event which will have long term affects:  a total solar eclipse in the astrological sign of Leo and a grand fixed cross.  And on that day, Creative Choices graduated its seventh internship class.  The following are excerpts from a speech I gave that evening.

I do not predict events, however I do work on interpreting them using the symbols that are present.  So even though I did not say a lot before about the solar eclipse and fixed cross, I want to now while we are all together.  For our guests who are not familiar with astrology, I would like to take a few minutes and explain what happened.

Today the Sun was eclipsed by the Moon at 18 degrees of Leo.  Symbolically an eclipse creates an intense awareness of our needs and desires.  It is linked to the ego, vitality and self-drive that are represented by the Sun.  Therefore a solar eclipse is always linked to the heart center.

Since Leo is ruled by the Sun it was even more important.  This conjunction is an invitation to open the heart. Inner confidence arises when we align with the heart by creating strong self-love, self honor and self respect.  Love of self enables us to sing our "heart songs" to others.

A solar eclipse is a powerful event but today it was a part of something even more significant: a fixed cross.  This means that there were four planets in aspect to each other: two oppositions and four squares in the signs of Leo, Aquarius, Taurus and Scorpio.  At the moment of the eclipse the Sun /Moon conjunction squared the planets Saturn and Mars, and opposed Uranus.  Mars (in Scorpio) opposed Saturn (in Taurus) for the last time in this Mars cycle.  The last time was during the time of the Colorado high school killings which created an intense national debate on violence.  The drought is also a symbol of this opposition. Scorpio will create the extreme chaos necessary to honor Taurus.  It takes violence for us to understand that our children need deep understanding and it takes a drought for us to value the earth.  Both experiences have pushed us more into the Aquarian experience (Uranus in Aquarius):  a large group of people of like mind coming together for a common purpose.

The symbolism of the fixed cross is even more significant if we look at other reference points.  How many of you have read the last chapter of the Bible (New Testament), called Revelations?

REVELATIONS (4:6-8) ….and round about the throne were four beasts full of eyes before and behind….the first beast was a lion; second beast a calf; third beast had a face as a man and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle….. and they rest not day and night saying holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was and is to come.

These four living creatures stand for everything that is noblest, strongest, wisest and swiftest in nature.  Each of them has the pre-eminence in his particular world.  So then the beasts represent all the greatest and the strength and the beauty of nature.  Here we see nature praising God.

These sacred beasts are the living representatives of the Fixed Cross: the lion (Leo), calf (Taurus), Man (Aquarius) and the Eagle (Scorpio).  Revelation is the last book of the New Testament and the symbology of Pisces.

I believe we have just moved from the Age of Pisces, a 2000 year period of experience, into a brand new age.  I have believed for a very long time that Revelations, was in essence, describing the end of the Piscean Age and the end of the world as we know it.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if the cross that was in the heavens today became the Aquarian cross taking us into the Age of Aquarius?

I believe the fixed cross, in the sky today, was a symbol of the next level, the next riding of the wave, if you will, to moving into the Age of Aquarius.  I believe this energy began a year ago in January, when the planet Neptune entered Aquarius.  I believe we are experiencing it again today.  As I mentioned, this is the time that Scorpio will bring the extreme chaos necessary to honor the rebuilding of Taurus.  It takes violence for us to understand that our children need deep understanding and it takes a drought for us to value the earth.  Both experiences have pushed us more.  We are creating intensity, we are creating chaos, we are creating children being hurt.  Of all the things that anyone would revile, it would be children being hurt.  Children dying in the high school in Colorado.  And now little pre-schoolers being shot at the Jewish Community Center in Los Angeles.

What does it all mean?  I do believe everything has meaning.  I do believe everything has the potential to be honored as a soul contact and karmic experience.  In our post-graduate class last week, we talked about how it was so important, unfortunately, for us to create devastation before we can create change, right?  We were talking about the drought which is part of what is going on, certainly in Maryland.  Maybe we were creating this level of chaos and extremism in order to finally band together and be the ecologically insightful people we should have been all along.  But, we are not until we are in a crisis.  We are not looking at understanding generations of children unless there is a crisis.  You know, we are not generally doing things of alteration and change unless there is a crisis.  So, I think the Scorpio part of the fixed cross has to do with that, creating intensity, creating chaos, creating an experience to be so symbolic that it gained national attention, so we cannot ignore it, period.  I believe that is what we have done.

I also believe that the Leonian energy, (the solar eclipse was in the sign of Leo and Leo is part of the fixed cross), was there to show us how very important it is for us to open our hearts again.  Our heart center is such a big, big part of how we live in the Aquarian Age anyway.  The opposite sign to Aquarius, after all, is Leo.  How many of us still need external acknowledgment to feel good about ourselves?  How many of us can say and feel and mean, I really don’t require anyone’s acknowledgment of me?  How many of us truly love, respect and honor ourselves?

Because, to be Aquarian leaders requires a certain amount of courage and confidence which comes from this self-love and awareness.  For instance, I know a lot of us are talking the talk (e.g. karmic astrology) without really knowing what kind of responses we are going to get.  But we are still out there talking the talk, aren’t we?  I think that requires the highest level of courage.

Nostradomas predicted that on this date, August 11, 1999, World War III would begin.  Now it is apparent that for the last 20 or 30 years, people like us have been changing the energy of the planet, changing the vibration, and we’ve made it work.  Predictions don’t have to come true - not this prediction.  I think what we did today was great.  I think we have heeded the universe’s message, and we are really on target.

• Using Scorpio’s intensity, power, and need for transformation.

• Using Taurus’ will to build things one step at a time, one brick at a time.

• Using Leo’s courage to open up our heart centers.

• Using Aquarius’ ability to create the next level of experience.

We are doing what we need to do and we are being the Aquarian leaders that we need to be.  I would love it if every one of you, tomorrow, could share with just one person, that the reality of this Age of Aquarius could have started today.

How many of you think you could do that?  How many of you are afraid to do that?  Think about the fixed cross that we have in the universe today, and the energy and guidance it is providing us.

One of the things I was reading, when I was doing some research for this evening’s graduation ceremony, is that one of the most important parts of the solar eclipse, especially in Leo, is the need for there to be a transformation of the heart.  And that is what I am holding – a transformation of the heart and all the things that Leo brings up for us.  I am sorry for what happened in Los Angeles.  I am sorry for the tragedies that are happening all over the world.  I still honor them, though.  I have to honor them for the lessons they teach, yet it is hard sometimes when I just want to rail against such tragedies.  Do you all know what I mean when I say that?  That is, we have to keep working on understanding the meaning of it.  You know, not judging it, not blaming it, not railing against it so much as understanding why these things are happening and what we can do about them.  We tend to go for the quick fix, don’t we?  There is no quick fix for this one.  It’s really each of us spending as much time as we can with people, helping people understand more about love, and not fear, helping our children understand more about values, not desecration.  It’s a long term process, and I am thrilled we went through today as well as we did, aren’t you all?

From Judy:  This is from a newsletter published by another holistic, spiritual group I wanted to share with you.  It says that the major themes being activated by this grand cross are:  1) self worth and abundance, Taurus; 2) the ability to achieve and express love, Leo; 3) correct use of power, Scorpio; and 4) freedom and equality, Aquarius.  It says the grand cross may be gauging how we are EACH progressing toward the achievement of these goals.  The cross will prompt us to take action by bringing up issues of fear that might interfere with these goals.  Then it says the fixed signs are idealistic and hold out a vision for which we can all aspire.  Taken together these four ideals can be seen as an interwoven foundation for the new human we are all attempting to become.

From Caren:  Is it possible that Nostradomas’ work could have been interpreted incorrectly?  In some of the reading I have done of his work I have learned of a group that incorrectly interpreted his words to create fear, not love, and to manipulate and control their subjects.  So is Nostradomas talking about an apocalyptic nightmare or a revelation of a divine nature for all of us to discover?  Is it a divine event that closely resembles Christ’s crucifixion?  (RE: The Pluto in Sagittarius symbology)

From Linda:  In the Age of Aquarius, our global concerns mirror our personal individual challenges.  Ending senseless violence and chaos, desiring equality for all of God’s children, promoting ecological measures to protect our planet, and hoping for leadership that creates honor, truth, integrity and compassion.  The Solar Eclipse provides us the energy to aspire to a meaningful existence.  We NOW have the choice to release the toxicity of the problematic Piscean experience and rise to a higher level of humanity.

From Teke:  In my Solar Eclipse meditation, I heard the following Be quiet and listen, be aware, be thoughtful and then share. Share completely and fully with whoever is there. They will stay around to listen to whatever truths you have to share. They are open.

From Caroline:  Regarding the courage of Leo, as well as the individuality of Aquarius:  We need to marry our polarities.  Not only opening up our heart center to others but empowering them by appreciating and acknowledging their differences and uniqueness.

From Tamlyn:  When we live out our higher intentions consciously - on the physical daily plane of existence, we utilize Universal power with right use of the Universal Mind - and we not only realize our own mundane dreams (Taurus) but also those of humanity (Aquarius).

From Julie:  How Aquarian that a small group of children came together, held hands and dramatically walked out of chaos together.  Our children are here to show us a different way of being - they demonstrated brotherhood and a wonderful humanitarian concern for all.  (In response to the shooting at the Jewish Community Center in Los Angeles).
