Is Astrology A Science?

Yes! Science is defined by Webster's "3rd" International Dictionary as: a systematized and formulated knowledge obtained through the study, practice and concern with the discovery of general truths or the operation of general laws.

The fifth definition for science is a branch of study concerned with the observation and classification of facts, especially with the establishment of or strictly with the quantitative formulation of verifiable general laws, chiefly by induction and hypothesis.

The last definition of science is a specialized rather than comprehensive one and refers to empirical science without regard to metaphysical science. Metaphysics, says Webster's Dictionary: seeks the relationship between underlying reality and its manifestations.

Empirical science and the inductive hypotheses method only deals with the manifestation of reality and attempts to reduce data down to a mechanistic explanation. That is not to say that this has no value. Many material accomplishments have been realized with this specialized form of science. However, to think that empirical science is the ultimate tool for discovering Reality/Truth is, in fact, a type mistake inherent in the application of that specialized tool.

Astrology is a metaphysical science which utilizes the empirical science of astronomy. Astronomy deals with the facts of planetary and cosmic placements and positions. Astrology is a 10,000 year old rational and deductive science of the relationship between celestial objects and people, places and events. Astrology is a science of meaning and value in its highest expression. It is interesting to note that physics (or classical physics) was a empirical reductionistic, mechanical science until Albert Einstein appeared on the scientific scene in 1905. Since Einstein and the development of Quantum Mechanics, physics has become a metaphysical science as well. This is nicely expressed in the observation by a modern physicist that the universe may not be a great machine, but rather a great thought.

Astrology is a 10,000 year old metaphysical science, utilizing the Cartesian rational deductive logic that is applied to first principles. Astrology's first principle is that all things are interrelated. We have no other science that has an observational data base of 10,000 years!
